A luxurious home bar

The brief

Turn an empty room into a luxurious home bar for entertaining friends, quiet morning coffees, and occasional work-from-home conference calls. Ensure this ‘open room’ transitions well from the large main living area, whilst feeling cosy and a bit special.

The solution

My vision was for a ‘private club’ feel, a slightly more intimate and luxurious interior design setting than the connected main living areas.

I chose a colour scheme of deep greys and peacock blue/greens, teamed with timber and brass. I designed bespoke, elegantly curved banquette seating with matching pouffes, in rich peacock velvet. Oak-slatted wall panelling adds texture and a contemporary feel. Adaptable lighting was incorporated, including under-shelf LEDs, stunning Tom Dixon ceiling pendants, and Beem wall lights – all dimmable. This allows for a customised ambience, whether for lively gatherings or quiet moments.

The centrepiece is a bespoke bar commissioned from a local cabinet maker, finished in Farrow & Ball Railings with sleek brass handles. The Grigio Velluto quartz worktop seamlessly extends as a splashback and bottle shelf for my client’s large selection of spirits. Two fridges provide plenty of space for chilled drinks, and there are power points for a beer pump and coffee machine. There’s ample storage with wall cabinets, drawers, and shelves for glassware.

The room is styled with plants, quirky wall art, Soho House cushions and a Hay metal drinks table (at the correct height for laptop conference calls). The blind is in Loki Peacock, a multi-colour striped woven boucle-style fabric to add pattern, colour and texture.

This transformation resulted in a modern, home bar design that seamlessly transitions from the main living area, providing an intimate and exclusive atmosphere for entertaining, quiet moments, and occasional work-from-home activities. I’m told this is the place that my clients’ guests want to spend the most time!
