Light, modern and luxurious guest bedroom

The brief

Part of a suite of guest bedrooms. Take three Georgian top floor fairly featureless loft bedrooms and create a unique, interior design scheme for each, with a modern look and feel.

The solution

My interior design concept centred around a sophisticated camel/amber colour scheme, with a plush velvet bed taking centre stage, complemented by tones of dark Vulcan Grey and French Grey for contrast. The wrap-around headboard creates a cocooning effect and adds a touch of luxury.

As the largest of three guest bedrooms, there was a little more space to play with. The room was short of features, so I designed a contemporary wardrobe to fill one wall, with inset display shelving in a contrasting colour. The wardrobe has plenty of practical hanging space, space for folded items, drawers, and a shoe drawer. On the facing wall, I placed a standout black steel wall-hung display unit to add contrast and create a space to arrange and display accessories.

Only spotlights existed which didn’t give the right feel for a bedroom. I added large metal cone-shaped ceiling-hung bedside lights with remote control switches, plus a table lamp on the shelving unit, enabling more cosy lighting.

A combination of crisp white hotel quality bedding, textured graphite blind, and velvet bedspread and cushions in fog grey, along with geometric-patterned cushions, add layers of sophistication.

Drum-shaped bedside tables with drawers in off-white provide practical storage solutions, the camel velvet bench offers a place to sit when getting ready, and a large arch-shaped mirror contributes to the illusion of space.

I styled the room with 3-dimensional textured wall art above the bed, abstract monotone framed art, decorative accessories (in amber, black and white), and reflected my clients’ interests with design, motoring and travel books.
