Victorian house renovation and interior design

The brief

Take an attractive Victorian terraced property, untouched for 30 years, and modernise it for the family rental market.

The solution

A full house refurbishment and contemporary Victorian interior design retaining period features and combining them with requirements for modern living.

Each space was carefully thought through, in terms of how the space might be used and likely furniture layouts, which enabled the positioning of lighting, heating and cabling for power, ethernet and TV points. A theme of light modern grey, paired with black brassware, black door handles, and anthracite woodwork continues through the house.

An old understairs storage cupboard has been reborn as a useful toilet and utility room which houses the washing machine to reduce noise.

The kitchen has a sleek and modern feel with aquamarine matt flat slab cupboards, slim, sleek black minimal handles, slim in height wall cabinets, and crystal white worktops. Warmth has been added with highly practical white oak LVT flooring. Lighting is versatile with a zone each for the kitchen and dining area.

The living room retains its beautiful ceiling cornice and now has a contemporary fireplace, log store and modern wall lights. The original floor has been refinished in a gently white tinted matt varnish.

The modern main bathroom has a seamless feel with wall and floor tiles that blend together. The black brassware, shower, and radiator contrast with the seamless feel and complement the darker areas of the terrazzo-tiled end wall.
